Each diagnosis, repair or restoration is tailored to the watch. Discover his background and how he works.<\/p>   <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Australia to Versailles<\/h2>   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicolas Craig trained in Australia, spending four years as an apprentice to a master jeweller and watchmaker, followed by five years running his own workshop. He made bespoke jewellery, carried out repairs and worked on watches. He moved to France in 2025. Today, in Versailles, he focuses on what drew him to the craft from the start: restoring vintage wristwatches and pocket watches using traditional techniques.<\/p>   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop is private and has no walk-in shop. Visits are by appointment only. Each watch may spend several weeks here, allowing the time needed for careful work by hand.<\/p>   <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The method, step by step<\/h2>   <ol class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Diagnosis.<\/strong> The watch is examined under magnification, and the case is opened where it is safe to do so. You receive a clear assessment of what needs attention, what should be preserved and what can wait.<\/li> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Quotation.<\/strong> An itemised quotation is prepared after the initial examination and any safe opening of the case. No chargeable repair work proceeds without your approval. Hidden defects found later are discussed before any additional cost is incurred.<\/li> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Complete disassembly.<\/strong> Where a full service is agreed, the movement is dismantled, including the barrel, and each component is examined under magnification.<\/li> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Restoration.<\/strong> Components are cleaned and worn parts repaired or replaced where possible. If a part is no longer available, making a replacement at the bench may be considered and quoted separately.<\/li> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Reassembly and regulation.<\/strong> The movement is lubricated with suitable modern watchmaking oils and regulated using a timegrapher, including positional measurements where appropriate.<\/li> <li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Testing.<\/strong> The watch is monitored at the workshop for several days before it is returned or offered for sale. A measured timekeeping report accompanies it.<\/li> <\/ol>   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repairs are photographed as the work progresses. These tools support careful work on older movements and, where feasible, the repair or manufacture of components that are no longer available.<\/p>   <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A jeweller by training, a watchmaker by passion<\/h2>   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicolas also trained in jewellery making and spent five years producing bespoke pieces. Although the workshop does not offer general jewellery services, that experience informs his work on watch cases, crowns, bracelets and clasps.
